On Religion

Well here it is Easter again. Another religious holiday that really doesn't mean anything. Sure, I enjoy spending time with my family and the good food, but the point of the holiday nags at me. And it nags at me because it is a christian holiday.

Now, why does that bother me? Because I see Chritianity IN IT'S CURRENT FORM as nothing more than a control mechanism, akin to politics.

Now, Gnotsic Christianity seemed to me to be a much more "pure" religion. Well, the Catholic church couldn't have that, so they went on "Crusades" that pretty much wiped the "heretics" out. Nice. As a side rant, the Jesuits wiped out a bunch of the Mayan knowledge too. Just think of all of the ancient lore we lost!

Good work guys.

Not.

Anyway, reading the Gnostic texts one finds (or so I think) a different picture of Jesus and the things he REALLY said. It usuallky surprises people to find out that the Bible REALLY HAS changed over time, and not just because of translation errors. If you have the time and the inclination you can track this yourself.

So when you are "thinking religion" this weekend, keep and open mind and check out "The Gospel of Thomas". Then, if you want, check out the other Gnostic gospels...Then if you are able to have an open mind you MIGHT be able to throw some of the chains of control off of yourself. Because, these writing will let you see how the bible isn't divine.

Also, as always, the Cassiopea web site and the Signs of the Times website have great information on this topic.
